Microcredit Program
Social Upliftment Society (SUS) is a women-led Non-Political, Not-for-Profit and Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) which formally started its journey in the development sector of Bangladesh in the year of 1990 with an aim of improving the socio-economic condition of the disadvantaged and under privileged people with a clear focus on women empowerment.
Jagoron
Jagoron, a transformative credit initiative of the Social Upliftment Society (SUS), is designed to foster sustainable, household-based enterprise development across both rural and urban communities of Bangladesh. The program aims to empower economically marginalized individuals by offering them access to financial services that can help them build and grow small-scale businesses, thereby enhancing their income and improving their quality of life. Initially, the focus of SUS’s financial support under the Jagoron program was directed solely toward rural households, recognizing the significant potential for entrepreneurship within village settings. Over time, however, the initiative evolved to address the needs of the urban poor as well. This expansion marked a vital step toward inclusive development, ensuring that families in densely populated city areas could also benefit from income-generating opportunities. Jagoron not only provides financial assistance but also promotes self-reliance and resilience among its participants. By encouraging small-scale ventures — such as livestock rearing, handicrafts, tailoring, grocery shops, and other home-based businesses — the program helps families move beyond subsistence living and establish steady economic foundations. SUS emphasizes long-term support through its partner organizations, which guide beneficiaries with essential training, business planning, and follow-up services. Through Jagoron, the Social Upliftment Society (SUS) envisions a Bangladesh where poverty is not a barrier to potential, and where every household has the tools and opportunities to build a better, more dignified future.
